Willie Jewell’s Old School Bar-B-Q Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

Living in the south I have learned that BBQ is a very important part of your life. When someone in California (where I am from) says lets have some BBQ it means, put stuff on e grill. It doesn't matter what it is, steak, chicken, ribs, fish.... I cannot claim to be an expert in the fine art of BBQ, but in my humble opinion the BBQ here is delicious! The restaurant is located in a strip mall that looks like it wouldn't compare to those backyard looking mom and pop BBQ joints. The neon signs make it hard to read the name of the place. The drive through kinda threw me off. All signs telling me not to go in. I am so glad I decided to try it though. Once inside, the place really does look the part of being a good BBQ place though. I ordered the two meat combo, which I chose Brisket and Pulled Pork. Both meats exceeded my expectations. An order of corn bread and mac and cheese. Both sides were delectable. The portions were enough to feed two people, but I was a BBQ hog and ate all of it.... not to proud of that... The prices are not that bad at all. I only paid a little over 10 dollars which I would happily pay again for such a good meal. The employees there are nice and very helpful with the menu. This place definitely has a cozy feel and not a chain restaurant. So if you are near CSU and want some good BBQ I would recommend you give this place a try!

Pretty darn good for what I like to call "fast food bbq." I was definitely skeptical of trying this place, but after missing our exit to stop by our intended bbq location, we decided to give Willie's a try. Ribs were awesome. Had a little chew to them which I love and some great flavor. A winner for sure. Sausage was ok, nothing special but good enough to satisfy a craving. Pulled pork was flavorful, but a bit dry. Nothing a little sauce can't cure, and they do have some good sauce. Their mustard sauce is fantastic. Be sure to grab an order of corn fritters too, some of the best I've ever had. They serve them with ranch dressing on the side, but for one, you don't need to dip these things, and if you do, use the bbq sauce! Probably won't make this place my go to bbq place in the area, but it's definitely worthy of checking out and visiting occasionally.

Food was really good but the bread pudding was amazing. Great stuff and yes we will be back

Absolutely the best ribs I've ever had! The rib just fall off or should I say melt off the bone lol! There's a huge variety of sauces to choose from, they're all fantastic but the my heart is faithful to the carolina mustard and vinegar based mmm :) Also the customer service was great, they were on top of our making sure we had yhe right sauces to go. I know it looks like a little chain in the strip mall but its definatly not, if you are in need of a good reasonibly price bbq go here!!!!

Food is good, but if there is more than 3 people there, they can't handle the crowd. I sat in drive-thru, stuck between other cars, for over 40 minutes. Three cars behind me eventually backed out and left. That left room for me to back out as well. Feel sorry for the girl who had already paid and had to wait even longer, because she couldn't leave. Unfortunately, this is not the first time service has been so slow. A good restaurant that I will NOT return to.

I eat here when I stay at Hampton Inn. I just walk over. I usually get chicken and two sides. Mac and cheese and green beans is what I ate tonight. Vegetables are seasoned well. I like the different BBQ sauces. They have the fine crushed ice that I like. It is not fancy but a good place to get a great meal really fast.

As good as it gets for an indoor smoker. The pork and beef brisket are great. The sauces are great. The fries and mac and cheese are also great. I wasn't a fan of the turkey, I expected dark meat turkey leg meat and it was breast meat and didn't taste smoked. It had the consistency of a honey baked ham at Christmas. Very chewy and not very good flavor.

The interior was nothing as I expected. It is a very clean, woody place with pigs scattered about. I thought it was a locally owned establishment, but it appears to be a franchise. I ordered the newest item, which is the marinated chicken. You can get it as a salad or sandwich. I got the wich. The chicken was very good with an intense smoky flavor. My side was a delicious bowl of mac and cheese. My girlfriend got the pulled pork and she put the mustard based sauce on top. I wish I had gotten this meal also. The pork was so tender, and the sauce amazing. Her sides were squash, string beans and garlic bread. We both ate for under $23.00. With the amount that we received and two drinks, that is a great price.

In town for business for a few days and this place was recommended. In a small strip mall in front of the hampton inn. Clean, friendly staff. Two meats and two sides were only 11 bucks. Slightly overlooked brisket but not too bad. Ribs were very nice. Loved the hot BBQ sauce. You can get the corn fritters as one of the sides. I recommend trying them.

This BBQ is pretty tasty, quickly ready, and the price is just right. Whenever we don't feel like taking the time to smoke ribs, I call in an order to Willie Jewell's for a full rack and pick them up in just 15 minutes! Surprisingly the sides are fairly decent as well and the corn fritters are a must try. Have fun trying all of their delicious sauces!

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE. Went through their drive thru to order a BBQ sandwich. Waited at the window for 20 mins with no one greeting me. There were employees working in the back but they completely ignored me. I finally got their attention by knocking on the drive thru window. They came over and I told them how long I've been waiting. His response was "we have catering orders" no sorry no apology nothing. I told him to just forget my order and he told to me to have a nice day with attitude. As a small business owner, I have no patience with this poor customer service. Never again. If I could give it zero stars, I would. I blame this experience on Management. They should have better training in place to ensure customer service.

As advertised, good BBQ, Good atmosphere and the service was good too. Had the ribs and baked beans, both were very good. Ribs had the smoke ring and I don't know if you could cook them more perfectly. Baked beans were very good. Tried 3 of the main sauces and all were good and somewhat unique. I really am looking forward to going back and trying the brisket, sausage and some more sides.

Since I have moved from the area, I seriously miss this place. I recommend their pulled pork sandwich and fries. I always asked for pickles and onions which I always threw on the sandwich with their vinegar based sauce. Their fries are really good and every once in awhile they have some homemade potato salad on the menu that the owner makes. It is some of the best I have had. The service is quick, you order at the counter and they either call you up or bring it to the table depending on how busy it is. I recommend them highly!!!

I've been here many times over the last few years. The offerings are plentiful, with hefty servings of the classic southern barbecue offerings. Until recently, the quality of food had always been pretty decent, even if at a mildly steep price. After a disappointing visit a few months ago I decided to give it another go today. Unfortunately, my precious experience was overtaken in terms of disappointment. The "famous" St Louis ribs were overcooked to the point the bones were browned and as soft as the meat should have been; at a cost of nearly $26.00, they were unacceptably inedible. Although the past few visits have been anything but desirable overall, I have to mention a few of their sides and give them what credit they deserve. The toast, banana pudding, and macaroni and cheese are all top notch. If you're looking for average barbecue sandwiches paired good sides, this isn't a bad choice. If you're looking for stellar ribs and blow your mind barbecue, I'm not convinced you'll find it here.

Food and service Very good. Mac and cheese and brisket is great! Prices good. Love the sweet sauce!

    (4)
  • Ken G.

Too pricey for what you get pork is dry until you put sauce on it. Place could use a good cleaning, if what the customer can see is dirty imagine what the rest is like.

  • T A.

$15.74 for less than a palm of pulled or chopped BBQ, and it was the best given. The brisket was tough and I bought it home for the dog. The collars had large stems and the slaw was cabbage with nothing much else maybe some oil with a slice of toasted bread....let me not forget the smoked sausage, I have had better from a china buffet. This was the second time for me since they opened with the same again.....never again.

Food was great! And after living in Memphis its hard to impress me with BBQ and they did a great job. However, there were a couple of things that could have been better. The customer service was not what it could be. I felt as if I were a bother because I asked questions. I ordered the 3 meat combo and was told that I could not get 2 portions of one of the meats. The girl seemed very annoyed because I had even asked. The other thing that really surprised me was they do not have a family pack on the menu. This makes it a little harder for me to do carry out for my family (which I love to do). Hopefully, they will consider some of these things, because the food is really worth the extra effort. :)

Discovered their awesome BBQ while awaiting a prescription refill. The smokers were luring me in with a wonderfully familiar aroma so in I went! I was greeted with a genuinely nice crew, who were more than helpful with going over menu items. I got a BBQ sandwich which was nearly 3" thick! Fresh bun, green beans and a super variety of sauces which were served warm. Washed it down with a cold beer. Yum yum! Highly recommended!

BBQ is one of those things where you can ask twenty people and get twenty different top picks. Its all a matter of personal preference as is anything else and with the abundance of awesome que around here that is to be expected. What I like about Willie's, other than the food and the immaculately clean store, is the consistency in the product. Our family, whenever they are in town, ALWAYS asks to eat here! The pulled pork is right up my alley because its a huge heaping pile of meat with next to zero fat in it. Sure it can be a little dry sometimes but I go here knowing they have an incredible sauce station. They have sweet, smokey, hot, vinegar, mustard based, and a few other sauces that are kept in a warm dispenser, mmmmmmmm!!!! The fries are always hot and crispy, the mac and cheese is pretty good, and the baked beans have a rich smokey flavor to them. I also sometimes get the greens even though they are fairly bland and I have to add some vinegar to them but thats only when I am in my semi-healthy mood! Our guests always insist on getting the corn fritters, they are like a sweet creamed corn fried goodness! One thing I would like to see is a bit more char on the pulled pork and brisket, but you can't have it all! This is, and probably always will be, my go to joint for some great consistent bbq. By the way, this is a chain restaurant although there are only three total. It is owned by a much larger restaurant chain by the name of Bono's Pit BBQ.

I love BBQ. This place delivers on some good smoked meat. I had the brisket and smoked sausage and two sides, green beans and collard greens. Now the vegetables were nothing special, but, the meat was extremely tender and flavorful. I love brisket, and, the brisket here at Willie Jewells was quite extraordinary. It's not the best I've ever had, but, it is the best I have had in the Charleston area, so far.

    (5)
  • Julio L.

The best Brisket ive ever had. Ribs were ok and pulled pork eh. If you roll up hit that brisket. Thick cut and i cut it with a plastic spoon!

  • Brian T.

Great BBQ, great price, great service. It's located in a non-obvious location, but definitely worth tracking your way there. Has a drive thru and seating inside for plenty. Five or six sauces available, sweet to spicy, all good.

  • Shawn S.

great place from some barbecue! i love the ribs and pulled pork sand-itches!

    (4)
  • Jess L.

I have nothing bad to say, but nothing particularly good either. Portions are large and reasonably priced. I had the turkey and Mac and cheese. Both were decent. The thing is, the turkey was pretty good, but I felt like it was something that I could get from any deli. There wasn't really anything special about it. The Mac and cheese was also just okay, although it would have been better if it had actually been warm instead of cold The one redeeming quality for me is that the sauce (of which there were several varieties: sweet, classic, spicy, traditional) did not come on the sandwich. It's on the side, which lets you (yes, YOU!) decide what and how much to add to your food/sandwich. I actually love this aspect! Food aside-the location is kind of crummy. Not that it's awful, but it's just very difficult to get out of the parking lot. I would recommend going behind the buildings and going down to the nearest light to get out. Much easier (especially for those of us going left)! Overall, it's not a memorable dining experience, but if you're looking for a quick, decent lunch...have at it! You won't necessarily be disappointed...just maybe not super happy either! Sounds fun right??

  • Jackie M.

The pulled pork was very good, the whole family enjoyed this place. I worried that it was a chain type restraunt when we drove into the parking lot, we were pleasantly surprised how good it was. I used yelp to find a BBQ place on our drive back to NY from Florida!

    (4)
  • Terry H.

Very good brisket and ribs. The service was fast and very pleasant. The BBQ was very tender and moist. The smoke flavor was great, I tried a few sauces but really didn't need or use them since the meat was very full of flavor without the sauce. A very good place to put on my return list.

  • Brent P.

Great customer service and awesome food. We got the bbq pork sandwich with Mac and cheese and collard greens.

Excellent food reasonable prices! We are on a road trip back home and it was well worth the stop.

    (5)
  • Lindsey H.

The service was great. I will give them that. However, I was told this was "the best barbque in town" and I'm just hoping that I caught them on a bad night (this was a few weeks ago). I had a pulled pork sandwich and my coworker had the brisket. The sauces were good, but the meat was just too chewy.

    (3)
  • Tyler H.

I really enjoy this place. The portions are huge and tasty. The bread pudding is probably the best part. The second best part is the sauces that are kept in heated dispensers.

    (5)
  • Joe C.

Good bbq. Had the corn fritters as an app. Tasty! My wife had the sausage platter and it was very good! My brisket was good but pieces were a bit burnt and dry but nothing that the numerous hot sauces couldn't fix. My side of Mac and cheese was so good I would order it as a main course! Better than any fast food joint in the area!

    (4)
  • Mike W.

Excellent BBQ, Brisket, Ribs, Chicken, and all the extras you could imagine! The food is always good, but there seems to be issues with the drive thru window. (Maybe some food shouldn't be sold thru a window). This is "Sit down inside like your eating at home" food anyway, come on in and eat like a man! Absolutely my favorite BBQ place by far, I really don't go anywhere else.

    (4)
  • George K.

Great food and great service. My second time here and I'm still happy. Ask for the lighter portion , which isn't on the menu, but is a little smaller than regular portion.

    (4)
  • Adam R.

I ordered the 2 meat combo with pulled pork and smoked sausage. Sides of Mac and cheese and green beans. Came with toast on the side. I also ordered the corn fritters. For drink I tried the grape lemonade. Pulled pork was dry and flavorless, so I added original sauce, which didn't help. So I tried the spicy sauce, even worse(too mustardy and no spice). Smoked sausage was bland as well, but better than the pulled pork. Mac and cheese was standard, nothing special. Green beans tasted as if they were canned and then had a little pork, onion and potato added. Again nothing great. Best part of the meal was the Grape Lemonade and Corn Fritters! I wouldn't recommend nor eat here again!

  • Jason H.

Gonna make this one short and sweet, CORN FRITTERS!!! I eat here as much as possible, and if it were up to my wife it would be more than that. We love this place. It has a down home feel right in the middle of a small store front. Well I suppose the end of a store front. Anyway, the fritters are amazing and we never go without ordering them. Along with that, the ribs are usually top notch, only once was I displeased, but hey, everyone has a bad day. Highly recommend heading up to University Blvd, and getting some good BBQ at Willie Jewell's.

  • Candace B.

We had to grab a quick bite before getting back on the road. The service was quick and the food was great! We were a bit surprised by the turkey sandwich, thinking it was BBQ. But, we were asked if we needed BBQ sauce too so that should have been a clue that the meat would not automatically have BBQ sauce. Anyway, my daughter said "the Mac and cheese just blew my mind." LOL. It was good. And the BBQ sweet sauce was devine with my chicken sandwich. The ribs were a little fatty (according to my girls) but they still tore them up. I am thankful for the previous reviews on this place because that is why we chose it. Totally worth it!

    (5)
  • Heather D.

My first time eating here, and it won't be my last! I had the pulled pork supper with Mac and cheese & collard greens, and peach cobbler (that rivals my grandmother's) for dessert. Southern comfort food is a favorite of mine and Willie Jewells is doing it right!

    (5)
  • Bruce K.

Strip mall BBQ, but as far as I can tell, this is not a chain. The dining room has an interesting wooden feel to it. The 'cue had a decent flavor but it was a little dry. I felt that the pulled pork needed sauce on it and from their "sauce bar", I filled two little plastic pots with their classic (a darker smokey flavor) that solved the problem. Mac and cheese was fair - macaroni was al dente but not cheesy enough. The cole slaw was good and wet with a nice vinegar tang. TV tuned into a local news station. Oddly, the background music was a Milwaukee rock-and-roll station, complete with Mikwaukee ads and local traffic - construction on I-94 has rush hour traffic pretty well backed up! It's okay. I'd return.

  • Alan R.

Excellent barbeque. Nice divey, downhome feel to the place. Good selection of sauces.

    (5)
  • Avery W.

Assorted sauces to top great ribs and meat plates. Every side I've tried, is great, collard greens, Mac & cheese, baked beans, corn fritters.

  • Valerie T.

DELICIOUS! the bbq is soooo good. The pulled pork..the ribs and the chicken are all great choices. The Collards are a hit and miss but the peach cobbler is on point! The place is in my dinner rotstion.

    (4)
  • Jess M.

The lima beans and collard greens were good. The pork bbq was A disappointment after going there b/c of decent reviews on yelp. Folks who think this is great bbq need to travel more.

  • Rheo D.

I was born and raised in the south, so I know my barbecue. I have no idea why this place is still open. First of all, it's horribly over priced, "comfort food" should never be that expensive. All of the sides are from a can, not one thing is made from scratch. It's pathetic how they don't even attempt to make it taste better than school cafeteria food. I have NEVER spit something out at a restaurant because it was so bad.... until now. THE. WORST. BBQ. EVER. I would bet money they took it out of a package and microwaved it. It's insulting to southern food to call this a barbecue joint.

    (1)
  • Steve C.

Not too bad for fast food. Everything was extremely tender. The brisket could be cut with a plastic fork, yet was very bland. The 1/2 chicken was more like 1/4 chicken. It was tender and fall off the bone but the skin color was an off putting gray tone that was not appetizing. Pulled pork was good, not a lot of smoke though. The BBQ sauces were average...mustard, sweet mustard, spicy mustard, and Arby's sauce. By far, the best item on the menu are the corn fritters. By far....they're excellent and worth the trip on their own. Price for 2 platters, 2 drinks, and a side of corn fritters $32. Not exactly the best deal in town. Hit Arby's across the street for a big Montana and swing by here on the way home for some corn fritters.

For me being from THE capital of BBQ Kansas City this place hits home with me well. The staff is personable and extremely friendly. The food is awesome and Im actually writing this as I wait for them to open. I made a good choice last time and its close to my house which is awesome!! I have tried all the spots in Charleston almost and so far this is the best. If I want something from KC I will have to make it myself. :) I love the way the inside is decorated too!!

I have been here 4 or 5 times since this fast food chain opened several years ago. Last week when I ordered the grilled chicken salad advertised as a special, it was really good so I came back today and ordered it again. This time it looked like someone opened a frozen bag of seasoned pre made chicken slices, warmed them up and put them on the salad. The chicken was dried out and crumbly. The lettuce was fine. I returned it and exchanged it for the brisket sandwich which was tasty. The staff did not seem to care. I do appreciate the staff exchanging my food without an argument.

  • Marian H.

Great BBQ for the price...had BBQ plate with 2 sides, toast and a drink for $10. They have salads, sandwiches, entrees with pork and beef ...all under $10. The BBQ was ground just right, not too fine or too chunky. There were a variety of mild to hotter sauces, mustard based and red. I chose the mustard based vinegar, was delicious and just right. Place is cozy and clean, friendly staff. You can purchase other items for a larger group by the pound or slab of ribs from $13-$21. I'm definitely going back!

    (5)
  • William B.

Nothing really special here, clean inside, friendly staff with quick service. Portions were good but the bbq was nothing special. Glad they had some sauces because the meat itself was a bit dry and not much flavor. No smoke flavor on the pork but had good consistency. Banana pudding was a bit too vanilla for my taste buds.

  • Mark H.

A good BBQ place right off of University. I like how they have a variety of BBQ sauce and it is all available and unlimited. I usually get the Pork Sandwich and it has never disappointed me. The sides are decent, I don't think the mac and cheese has a lot of flavor though. The price is pretty decent for what you get as they don't skimp on meat. Even with a big lunch crowd they got the food out fast and efficiently. A must try if you are craving BBQ and in the area.

  • Beth And Jim S.

He said: Kind of stumbled on this place. The food was pretty good, but not killer or anything. Our wait time was such that I'd probably not go back. The sides seemed a touch lackluster and I was expecting a lot after the wait. She said: They had a great selection of sauces, which I like. The dining room is quite congested and we waited quite a while for our order.

  • Beth R.

The BBQ is pretty good. They used to have sauce machines, but now you have to ask for it.

A visit to Charleston means a visit to Willie Jewell's. So far, over the course of 10 or more visits, I've only been able to try the ribs and the pulled pork. I've only had these two because they are delicious!! The ribs are smoky, moist and tender. The pulled pork is juicy and smoky, not dry and chewy. Both ribs and pulled pork are accompanied by an array of tasty sauces...I sometimes use a different sauce for each individual bone. Don't judge me, I love good sauces with great BBQ!!!!

Bbq is fantastic!!!!! Corn fritters are so good. I come to Charleston all the time and I always have to stop by.

After being very disappointed with downtown Sticky Fingers, I had make it up to the Mrs. Thanks to the Yelpers I found this hidden gem. I ordered the Stl Style ribs and WOW they were fall off the bone!!! That with a double Mac and Cheese well worth it. My wife ordered the smoked chicken and green bean and it was so good she ordered another to go. The best part of all this is no waitress/waiters. Everything is self serve no need to worry about a tip. The staff is extremely friendly I will be taking my family here when I get back

Stopped in on a slow Monday evening since I was in the area and had been wanting to try Willie Jewell's for quite some time. I'm disappointed I hadn't stopped here sooner! Ordered chicken/rib combo with sweet corn and baked beans. Chicken was outstanding, great smoky flavor...ribs execellent, not falling off the bone but very little effort to remove the meat from the bone. Side of the Day was sweet corn, nothing special, maybe even a little dry. Baked beans were good but could use some work to make them GREAT. My girlfriend tried the pork/rib combo, she loved the ribs and commented the pork was so-so. We tried both the sweet and traditional BBQ sauces, I liked both but favored the sweet slightly more than the traditional hickory. Texas toast accompanied my order and was good. Service...you order at the counter then wait, nothing much too it until they call your order and you retireve it. Staff was friendly and answered serveral questions with confidence and knowledge that they were familiar with the menu. Business actually picked up duing my visit but food continue to come from the kitchen at a steady pace. Atmosphere is old-style BBQ house, wood table and chairs, lots of Willie Jewell's products on shelves along the walls. Fairly small inside but Willie Jewel's is in a strip mall just northwest of Nason Medical Center, I doubt they pack the house very often for eat-in dining. Ratio of patrons during my visit was 70% take-out, 30% dine-in. Positives...great ribs and chicken. Negatives...have to say the sides but I don't go to a BBQ joint for sides other than baked beans. I want meat and they delivered with the chicken and ribs. I've tried several BBQ places in the Charleston area but nothing comes as close to midwest-style BBQ than Willie Jewell's, my new "jewel" of a BBQ joint. Looking forward to a return visit to try the beef and pork and see if I unfairly rated the sides. Until I try the beef brisket...Willie Jewell's is my number two BBQ location, hoping they exceed my expectations and they become the number one!

Been a few times. It's pretty good & you have many different sauce options. Not the best food I've every had, but a decent meal. It's worth a try.

Five stars!! Yep, it's that good. Had the pork sandwich with 2. Great smoke flavor but not overpowered. Looking forward to the ribs. Wish you were in W. Ashley.

shocked at how great this hidden gem is. Wanted to give Cook Out another try but when we got there the line was unreal...I look across the street and see some bright lit sign. I say to wife let's try that place...great idea it was. Atmosphere was old school warm wood that smelled yummy. Great pork sandwich with the best sweet sauce ever (it comes out warm in the dispenser) best grape juice lemonade as well...such a solid place! Cook Out fans are missing out and should cross the street for a real treat

I have been to this restaurant several times for lunch and will continue to go back. Their BBQ is delicious (not Carolina style) and they have several sauces to choose from. My favorite is the sweet sauce. All the sides we've had are good, but the corn fritters are a must have. Fried chunks of sweet creamed corn with ranch dipping sauce. Amazing.

Went to Willie Jewell's BBQ today and came away pretty impressed. The portions are huge if you get the supper plate. Overall, everything was really good and I like that we had to wait for the food...meant they were preparing it each order. Check this place out.

We got here around 8:45pm and was informed that they were out of ANY kind of ribs and were closing in about 10 minutes. Seriously... if your restaurant title is "Old School Bar-B-Q" and half of your menu is ribs alone, then there is really no reason why you should ever run out of ribs around dinner time. But this is not why I'm giving it a 2-star rating. It's mainly because of the very rude cashier that talked to us in such a tone that made it seem like we were inconveniencing him by eating at the restaurant (I'm sure he could care less about our patronage because it's not his restaurant and he just works there). Then comes the really bizarre part. I had bought a Groupon for the place worth $15, and our bill came out to be this: 1 Turkey Sandwich w/Side 7.49 1 Pork Sandwich w/Side 7.49 1 Green Beans $1 1.00 1 Iced Tea 1.79 $ Discount 13.57- Sub/Ttl 4.20 Tax 0.44 _____________________________ Total 4.64 I inquired about why my $15 Groupon only ended up being $13.57 off and the guy who wouldn't give us the time of day said they only take the amount off the subtotal. I said okay... then pointed out again that our subtotal is clearly more than $15. He then quickly said some stuff about our bill being $17 something and they do this for everyone, and that's just how it works. I said that I still don't really understand and he, again, said "That's just how it is for everyone!" Anyway, we figure it's only like two buck difference so we left the matter alone, but it would have been nice for him to talk to us like we weren't such an inconvenience. Sorry for being there! Eesh. What happened to the famous good 'ol southern hospitality??? The only redeeming quality is that the pork sandwich was really good, which gave me a taste of the ribs that we missed out on.

Wanted to like this place, but the attitude from one specific cashier/server ruined our first dining experience in beautiful South Carolina. He made an unnecessary comment about us using a Groupon. Totally uncalled for. I welcome management to contact me so I can tell them the entire experience without embarrassing their establishment. The food was good, not great. Service from other employees there was positive.

Grrrrrreat BBQ. Had the sausage sandwich and some ribs and was impressed. The sides though we're tasteless or maybe just couldn't compare after such outstanding BBQ. Well done, thank you...

Don't think this place is 5 star worthy, but I'm very picky when it comes to my 'que. It was definitely a solid 3 stars though. The service was great, they treated us like they knew us, answered any questions we had, even gave us samples of the sides before we ordered. They checked on us a couple times to see how things were and talked with us a for a couple minutes. I had the 2 meat combo, with ribs and pork, and collards and cornbread for sides. The cornbread was some of the best I've had, outside of my wife's, even had chunks of corn in it. Collards were so-so, but when I dipped the cornbread in the pot liqour, it was great. Ribs were pretty good, had a nice smoky flavor to it. The pork was ok, and the sauces were ok as well. Overall a nice little place, probably go back again sometime.

Must stop in for some of the best ribs I have had in a long time!!! Great food and great service. We liked it so much we were back within a week for more! The brisket was also tender and thinly sliced. Recommend both highly. Their sides were also good but nothing extraordinary. So 4 stars it is! Definitely will make it a point to come back!

I heard a few good things and wanted to check it out. I had my usual meal at BBQ places of a pulled pork sandwich. The first thing that caught me was how expensive it was for a sandwich. Their sauces we kinda bland and not spicy enough even adding hot sauce. The sweet tea was decent. I would recommend going to one of the other BBQ places around town unless you are just close to it.

Stopped in for lunch one day with my husband and we both tried the bbq pork sandwich and a side of mac n cheese. The meat is sooooo good. Great flavor, tender, nice smokiness. Perfect, really. They have about 5 different sauces and they're all very tasty and unique. The mac n cheese was pretty good too. We also had the peach cobbler and banana pudding. Both were delicious! Will try again!!

Today I ventured up to Willie Jewell's Old School Bar-B-Q restaurant on Hwy 78 near Trident Hospital. It is located directly across from Atlanta Bread Company. I had noticed this new BBQ joint in a newly constructed strip mall but had not known of anyone eating there before. Today I struck out to try something new. Once inside I was immediately surprised at the number of tables and booths and also by the number of patrons having lunch. The dining room is very nicely decorated to fit the "Old School" fashion. Rough cut timbers paneled the walls. The dining area was very clean and orderly. The menu is very similar to Home Team BBQ. There is no buffet and you place your order from the counter. From the menu the meat options for the sandwich are Pork, Beef, Turkey or Sausage BBQ. The meat is all smoked. I particularly liked the sauce options. The sauces are organized on a station with each variety in its own warm serving dispenser. The ribs must be a popular item. I noticed many patrons ordering them today. As with any BBQ eatery they have the standard 'Southern Sides' of Baked Beans, Green Beans, Cole Slaw, Fries, Mac N' Cheese and their Side of the Day. Today, I chose the Collards Greens. The greens were very finely chopped, much like The BBQ Joint in N. Charleston. However, these greens offered as much chopped meat for seasonings as it did greens. I give Willie Jewell's Collard Green 2 thumbs up. My sandwich was served on a very hefty sized bun and one that did not feel the need to fall apart the moment you took your first bite. The portion of meat on the sandwich was very generous and fair. However, the serving of pork that I was given today had a lot of pieces that should have been pulled to the side. I would consider these pieces to be the burnt edges that were closest to the heat while cooking. Unfortunately, a third of my serving were these burnt and tuff edges. I should hope that my serving was not consistent with their normal offering but was merely an oversight on the cooks part. Overall, I give Willie Jewell's Old School Bar-B-Q restaurant a score of ( A- ). It is obvious that they take overall pride in what they do. It is nice to see establishments like this venture into this part of N. Charleston. I look forward to visiting Willie Jewell again soon and hope that next time I can give it an A+. I also look forward to trying the ribs and their famous Grape Juice Lemonade.

The BBQ here is AMAZING! My husband and I stop here after work regularly and have always received great customer service. The beef is the best we have had anywhere. My husband is a BBQ fanatic and he agrees. Love the black eyed peas....wish they were not just a special but permanently on the menu (hint, hint). The BBQ sauce is warmed and the SWEET sauce is AWESOME! We LOVE Willie Jewell's and so will you! :-) PS. This is actually BETTER than my favorite Jacksonville BBQ restaurant, Bono's. Owned by the same folks but there is just something better about WILLIE JEWELL's. I am almost reluctant to leave this review for fear that the place may become overcrowded with patrons....but we love it that much! In fact, I am craving it now just thinking about it.

Stumbled across this place while passing thru the state and wow, are we glad we did. Located in a boring strip mall across from a Charleston university, this little spot brightened or day. The pork was superb! Moist and tender and flavorful. So flavorful, that it comes w/out sauce. There is an assortment of 5 BBQ sauces, from the SC mustard base to a tangy hickory. The pork was so good on it's own i didn't even want to sause it...but the sauce was also so good so it was a real dilemna! Wish i could go back and try the smoked sausage or ribs. And a terrific value. Highly recommended!!
